One day. Millions of journeys. Every journey matters.

Public transport doesn’t just connect places – it connects people. Today we’re celebrating what brings us together – and the people who make it happen.

Public transport is the backbone of the city.

Public transport ensures that millions of people can get around the city every day. Whether it’s to work, a date, school, the doctor’s, the gym or a job interview: public transport gets you there – quickly, safely and reliably. As a climate-friendly alternative to private motorised transport, public transport is also the key to climate action and thus to a future worth living for us all.

Behind every journey are the people who make it possible.

More than 9,500 people work at Wiener Linien, doing their very best every day to keep Vienna moving. Today is dedicated to them.

"Public transport keeps Vienna moving day in, day out. It reliably takes people to their destinations and connects them with one another. The fact that this service in Vienna is so reliable and efficient is not something to be taken for granted, but the result of the tremendous dedication of our staff. Day after day, more than 9,500 colleagues – often working behind the scenes – ensure that millions of passengers travel safely and reliably. On World Public Transport Day, we highlight what is often taken for granted: every journey counts – and without the people behind it, it would not be possible."

  • Did you know...

that more people in Vienna have an annual pass or another type of season ticket from Wiener Linien than they do their own car?

  • Did you know...

that at peak times, around 900 vehicles are on the move simultaneously across Vienna’s public transport network? These vehicles can carry around 210,000 people at the same time.

  • Did you know...

that our buses, trams and underground trains cover a distance every day that is enough to circle the Earth five times?
