Discounts and free travel

Certain groups of people can use Vienna’s public transport at a reduced rate or even for free.

Children and youths

Children up to the age of six

Children can travel free of charge on the Schnellbahn (ÖBB) until their sixth birthday. On Wiener Linien services, free travel applies until the end of the school year in which the child turns six.

Children and young people under 15: Free travel during the holidays, on Sundays and public holidays

During the Viennese school holidays, on Sundays and public holidays, and on 2 and 15 November, children and young people up to their 15th birthday can travel for free on the Wiener Linien network. However, free travel does not apply on so-called ‘school-autonomous days’, which are decided by the individual school.

For older pupils, this free travel scheme applies until their 24th birthday, provided they are enrolled at a public school or a school with public status located in Austria (vocational school pupils are excluded). A pupil ID card is accepted as proof.

Holders of a City of Vienna Mobilpass

Holders of a City of Vienna Mobilpass can use the reduced-fare Mobilpass ticket.
