From 1 February 2026, the new annual youth pass will replace the semester pass and the holiday monthly pass. The annual youth pass is available to anyone under the age of 26, regardless of their education or occupation.

The current semester ticket is valid until 31 January 2026. From 1 February 2026, it will be replaced by the new youth annual ticket.

When and where is the semester ticket valid? The semester ticket is valid during the winter semester from 1 September to 31 January. The ticket is valid on all lines within Vienna (core zone Vienna) for underground, tram and bus lines (except special express bus lines) as well as for the ÖBB (e.g. rapid transit railway) and the Wiener Lokalbahnen (up to Vösendorf-Siebenhirten).

Who can use the semester ticket? Regular students at an educational institution in accordance with § 3 StudFG who have not yet reached the age of 26 before the start of the respective semester. This means that you can purchase the ticket until the semester in which you turn 26. The winter semester begins on 1 September and the summer semester on 1 February.

Do I have to carry my student ID with me when travelling? Yes. In addition to your semester ticket, you always need a valid student ID when travelling. If you do not yet have a valid student ID at the start of your studies, you can alternatively use a valid confirmation of enrolment and photo ID.

What should I do if I lose my semester ticket? If you lose your semester ticket or it is stolen, you can have a duplicate issued at one of our information and ticket offices. To do so, you will need an official report of loss or theft. The fee for issuing a duplicate is €10. If you purchased your ticket from the Wiener Linien online ticket shop, you can reprint it free of charge.
