Modernisation and service changes
Current timetables
Some modernisation work requires changes to timetables. You can always find the most up-to-date timetables here:
100 construction sites, only a quarter have an impact on operations
Wiener Linien will be using hammers, drills and excavator shovels at a total of 100 locations in 2024. Our passengers will notice little or nothing of most of the modernisation work. This is because, where possible, we work during non-operating times or plan the work in such a way that it does not affect ongoing operations. Only a quarter of the measures have a noticeable impact on public transport operations.
Some of the extensive modernisation measures, such as large-scale track replacements, substructure renewals or tunnel girder renovations, are only possible when operations are interrupted. For reasons of efficiency and economy, it is necessary to divide, reroute or short-circuit lines. The complete cancellation of a line is the absolute exception.

Construction planning: close coordination with the City of Vienna
Wiener Linien works closely with the departments of the City of Vienna in construction planning. This means that necessary earthworks such as sewer renovation or district heating connections can be carried out at the same time as track construction work. Where possible, Wiener Linien's construction work is also combined with a redesign of the surface or vice versa. Examples of this are the modernisation work on the tunnel ceiling in Praterstraße and the renewal of the tracks in Wiedner Hauptstraße. This significantly increases the added value of the modernisation measures.
