Should weather conditions be unfavorable (e.g. thick fog, rain or storm), the autonomous buses may temporarily not drive. We ask for your understanding! Due to Coronavirus the buses are out of order.
Autonomous minibuses entered test operation on 6 June 2019
On 6 June 2019, the time had come for the first driverless bus to enter test operation. The auto.Bus – Seestadt research project is being funded by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology as part of the “Mobility of the Future” scheme.
Wiener Linien Managing Director Günter Steinbauer explains, “Autonomous driving is a megatrend with the potential to change cities for good. As a public transport provider, we will be at the forefront of this.”
The auto.Bus – Seestadt project aims to enhance the operational quality of future autonomous bus routes by means of planned technological innovations. The goal is to sustainably increase the efficiency and operational safety of autonomous vehicles, with the ultimate goal of testing a bus line in Seestadt under real conditions – with stops, timetables and, of course, passengers.
